Assignable beta is an exciting, innovative tool offered for OpenStax Introduction to Sociology 3e, Psychology 2e, and U.S. History. Assignable allows instructors to assign OpenStax textbook content to their students and build customized assignments directly in their learning management system (LMS). Examples of the LMSs supported by Assignable include Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, and Brightspace/D2L. Students complete these assignments directly within the LMS — eliminating the need to visit an external website or pay for access codes.

Currently, Assignable enables instructors to assign the following:

  • Readings from select OpenStax textbooks. Instructors can assign entire chapters or specific sections based on their course needs.
  • Pre-reading and post-reading assessments featuring multiple-choice questions. These assessments include carefully designed learning progressions that support students as they engage with complex concepts. Instructors can customize how many points an activity or question is worth and reorder activities.
  • Additional culturally responsive, interactive materials from the OpenStax Resource Library. These materials include articles, discussion prompts, diagrams, researcher profiles from historically underrepresented groups, and videos.

Register for our upcoming webinar, where the OpenStax team will provide an overview of Assignable’s features and capabilities. We’ll also:
