First the pandemic and now the conflict in Ukraine are having significant implications for food supply chains. The industry is on standby to quickly and frequently adapt formulations, substitute ingredients and fight soaring prices. The frequency and unpredictability of these changes expose the food industry to many, and more complex, emerging risks. With an ongoing threat to food security, the industry is also having to identify and address side effects that can impact food safety (such as exposure to new allergens or contaminants), regulatory framework changes and nutritional issues, as well as intentional adulteration and fraud.
