IHS Markit has constructed two Low Emissions Cases to 2050 that meet the Paris climate agreement goal of keeping global mean surface temperature rise to 2°C or less above pre-industrial levels by 2100.
These differentiated pathways include the expectation of emissions “overshoot” for some period and reflect significant regional differences in the pace of change. Each of the cases employs a different mix of technologies, pricing mechanisms, renewables, and non-energy measures.
