As people who identify with the plant-based eating spectrum—from flexitarian to vegan—grows, more plant-based meat and dairy alternatives are added to grocery shelves and restaurant menus. This webinar will take a deep dive into the growing landscape of plant-based beef burger replacements and share the results of an analysis of the top products on the market today, including the results of a large-ranging double-blind taste test, deep dive of the nutrition analysis and ingredients, carbon footprint analysis and sales data. Are these products truly more nutritious than beef or other meat burgers? Do people enjoy them? What are the benefits and limitations to offering or recommending these products to the public?
New Hope Network conducted proprietary research about the taste acceptance and nutritional profile of the top 20 plant-based burgers on the market, focusing on those that are positioned as a beef burger replacement or meat analogue (versus a vegetarian patty or bean burger, for example). We held a blind taste test allowing 115 tasters to rank the products based on appearance, taste and acceptances as a beef burger replacement. Additionally, our on-staff dietitian did a deep dive into the nutrition analysis and ingredient lists to rank the products, and we also incorporated carbon footprint analysis and sales data into the overall project scope in order to deliver answers to some burning questions about this controversial category. Are they truly healthy for people and planet?
