The California Firefighters Bill of Rights contains procedural requirements for firefighter interrogation before and during an investigation, protections for political activity and procedural requirements for the administrative review of certain discipline. In this Best Best & Krieger LLP webinar, attorney Mark Velasquez will review:
who is covered by the Act,
when it applies,
the pre-interrogation and during interrogation procedures and requirements,
proper notice of interrogations and discipline,
the right to representation,
the imposition of discipline,
administrative appeals of discipline and
other miscellaneous provisions of the Act, such as personnel files.
Special emphasis will be placed on the role of chiefs and supervisors, as well as how a fire district board of directors may be the de facto reviewing authority in the “quasi-judicial” administrative appeal of a firefighter’s discipline.
