As educators, we often use the assessments embedded in our instructional materials as evidence of student learning. After all, what could be better aligned to the content students are learning in the materials than the assessments that came with those materials? In this webinar, we present a case for the use of external assessments as a vehicle for strengthening the use of instructional materials and surface some of the issues with only using curriculum-embedded assessments. Student Achievement Partners worked with educators from Tennessee and New Jersey to design a Grade 3 assessment on fractions. Join us to hear what they learned when they closely examined how the assessment matched up with their instructional materials (Go Math! and Eureka Math) and what insights the process gave them for thinking about Grade 3 instruction on fractions.
