As a construction material, aluminum is a preferred choice for window and greenhouse frames. Besides being lightweight and easy to process and recycle, aluminum parts can be finished in a rainbow of paint colors. Without proper surface treatment, however, the coating will delaminate over time.
Maintaining the color vibrancy of coated aluminum construction parts requires the right chemical surface treatment. While traditional solutions, such as a Ti/Zr conversion, may offer fine alternatives to using chromates or phosphates from an environmental perspective, their technical performance still can leave a lot to be desired.
