Concrete is the most consumed material in the world, second only to water. At the same time, recycled glass is becoming a growing problem in Australia and throughout the world. Despite being a 100% recyclable material, much of Australia’s glass is being stockpiled, exported or sent to landfills. The use of glass in concrete is an innovative option that not only provides a solution to the excess glass issue but also provides additional benefits to concrete industry.
Ryan Messer was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2018 to investigate the use of recycled glass in concrete on a global level. Join Ryan as he outlines his findings from the journey, and details some of the action required for Australia to progress in this field.
