One way to address broad market report delivery security concerns and satisfy clients that want easier access to their data is to create an external portal. However, it isn’t as easy as setting up the portal and turning on the switch. Internal teams at investment firms are grappling with the issues created by external access and whether it is truly better than simply emailing requested data to clients. For instance, retail clients are more comfortable with external portals while institutional clients sometimes push back on the log-in and related procedures required before they can access their data. Firms will also have to decide whether to have a static data presentation or allow clients to manipulate data. Either scenario will require input from compliance staff, data quality control groups, market data providers and third-party service providers. Finding the right configuration among providers is essential for a successful portal.
