From the disruptions caused by class clowns and persistent attention-seekers to the frustrating problems caused by students who are not focused on academic success, power struggles can disrupt even the most carefully planned instruction. Because of the complex nature of this ubiquitous problem, educators often find it one of the most difficult classroom management issues to resolve successfully. In this presentation, participants will learn the causes of power struggles, strategies for prevention, procedures to follow when a student acts out, techniques to manage the accompanying stress, and the mistakes to avoid when dealing with this issue.
