Telehealth: Implementation Challenges in an Evolving Dynamic

Tuesday, April 14, 2015
12:00 – 1:30 pm EDT

We cordially invite you to join us for the final webinar in our four-part Digital Health webinar series, entitled Telehealth: Implementation Challenges in an Evolving Dynamic. Telehealth services are proliferating. The promise of greater access, improved quality and lower costs associated with the integration of mobile and other technology into the health care delivery system is affecting the perspectives of consumers, providers and payors. While the technology appears to be delivering, the regulatory environment has been slow to adapt to the rapid pace of innovation. Implementing a telehealth environment can be challenging, as the adoption of new approaches that have clear access requires quality to be reconciled with the complexity of the health care regulatory environment. During this webinar, we will explore, among other topics, the following:

  • Challenges associated with licensure for health care professionals and scope of practice in a telehealth setting

  • The slow evolution of reimbursement for telehealth services

  • The increasingly complicated privacy environment for mHealth services and the digital technology through which they are delivered

  • The sometimes “hidden” impact of fraud and abuse and patient engagement regulation

  • Tactics for effectively addressing some of these challenges

Health care providers, payors and life sciences companies increasingly operate in a digital environment. McDermott Will & Emery is hosting a complimentary four-part webinar series to explore the practical business considerations and to simplify the regulatory complexity of digital health, including health information technology (IT), big data, mobile health and telehealth.

The series will address how digital health is transforming the following four foundational dynamics and the implications of this transformation for your business:

  • Health IT: Collection, analysis and sharing of health information

  • Big Data: Identification and pursuit of innovative care delivery and payment models, products, services and business methods that facilitate patient access to care, improve quality and coordination of care, and reduce costs

  • Mobile Health: Role of the patient in his or her health care

  • Telehealth: Doctor-patient relationship
