Join IBM and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in this webcast to learn more about the use of enterprise asset management and analytics to help transform the maintenance approach faced by the second largest rail transit system in the United States. With over 1.5 million trips per year across 106 miles of track using 86 stations reliability is very important to WMATA and its riders. Since 1976, WMATA rail car fleet maintenance has utilized the same time-based maintenance approach to maintain the rail car fleet, regardless of rail car usage or need.

Recognizing not all rail cars receive the same usage in a period of time, and that the actual maintenance thresholds could be optimized, WMATA partnered with IBM to transform the maintenance strategy.

In order to improve efficiency and operational safety WMATA has undertaken a migration to a mileage-based maintenance model that more closely aligns with actual rail asset usage. Moving to a mileage-based preventive maintenance schedule driven by actual mileage values will enable WMATA to achieve a higher availability of these assets and reduce the overall parts inventory and associated maintenance costs, while proactively improving safety. This webcast will touch on the end to end solution and projected benefits, including required rail car modifications, maintenance analytical techniques, and automation.
