Raise Your Expectations: Learn How the New Agilent 7900 ICP-MS Redefines ICP-MS Performance

Agilent is the leading supplier of ICP-MS instrument Worldwide. So a new, replacement ICP-MS model is big news.

With this new model, Agilent is expanding the range of ICP-MS to allow sample types and applications that have never before been possible with the technique, as well as introducing two innovations in software and instrument control. Key highlights are:

• A 10x increase in matrix tolerance to allow tens of % total dissolved solids (TDS) samples to be run (e.g., saturated brine at 25% NaCl). Previously the normal dissolved solids limit for ICP-MS has been 100x lower at 0.2% TDS (Agilent’s previous ICP-MS could measure 2.5% TDS max.).

• The dynamic range of the detector has been increased by a factor of 10, to allow major elements to be measured directly in the same run as the trace elements. Previously, most labs would have had to run samples on different instruments or make a second analysis at a higher dilution to measure the majors.

• Sensitivity has been increased and backgrounds have been reduced, so detection limits have been improved (signal to noise has improved by a factor of 10).

• ICP-MS software is usually powerful and flexible, but sometimes not easy for new and inexperienced users to learn. With the new release of ICP-MS MassHunter for the 7900, Agilent has introduced an innovative solution to this issue, namely an automated Method Setup Wizard. This reduces method setup to a few mouse clicks and ensures that reliable data can be produced using new methods setup by all users.

• A further innovation is the industry’s first mobile monitor app, which allows system status to be viewed and basic instrument and sampling functions to be controlled remotely, from a smartphone or tablet.
