With a legacy mobile platform for their utility meter reading approaching the end of its lifecycle, Enexis, a regional electricity and gas network operator in The Netherlands, needed a new mobile platform for fast application development and secure deployment.
Within a pilot project, Enexis wanted to employ the applicability of customized Enexis Apps, standard Apple apps, and tablets in the primary process of meter recording. The goal was to provide newer mobility technologies to support its employees who read the meters outdoors at the customer location.
With support from SAP and Capgemini, Enexis deployed a managed mobility solution to remotely connect its backend for planning, accessing customer information, and retrieving meter data.
This included:
- Development, organization, use, and maintenance of Apps as a hosted service
- Incorporation in the Enexis system landscape and in the IM organization
- Integration with Enexis SAP IS-U system based on the SAP Mobile Platform (Sybase Unwired Platform) as a managed service
The lessons learned from this project will enable Enexis to share more meaningful customer information and leading the European utility industry as an ambassador for the use of new and improved mobile technology. In addition, Enexis expects to realize better employee satisfaction and reduced complexity through the use of mobility-as-a-service.
In this session, Frank van Rossum, Enexis Project Manager of IT & Mobility, discusses the lessons learned and expected benefits of increased process efficiency gained through Mobility. He also explains how this project provided input for a broader mobile strategy.
