Do You Know What Your Building Data is Telling You? How GSA and Tulane University Became Smarter Buildings

In the U.S buildings are consuming 70% of all electricity, up to 50% of which is wasted. Furthermore, by 2025 they will be the largest emitters of greenhouse gases on our planet. Clearly buildings consume a significant amount of energy, but they also produce a lot of data. By analyzing all of this data, agencies can identify areas of operational and financial improvement , increase their reliability and sustainability for future generations, and become a "Smarter Building."

With these trends in mind, it is more important than ever before to learn how to leverage your building's data and that's where we come in. That's why GovLoop and IBM® hosted a free online training to explore what makes a building a "Smarter Building." Specifically, we discussed:

  • The value of integrating your building data to increase operational efficiencies, improve security and reduce building costs.

  • Real world case studies from Ken Schwartz, Favrot Professor and Dean, Tulane University School of Architecture, Frank Santella, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, GSA, and Joseph Phillips, Director, IBM Global Business Services.

  • Tips for working across team boundaries to leverage insights from your building data.

  • How access to integrated, real-time data can help create energy efficiencies to promote Green IT, reduce energy consumption and lower overall energy costs.

  • How to create a continuous improvement process within your agency to drive additional cost reductions and efficiencies.

Smarter Buildings are defined as well-managed, integrated infrastructures that provide optimal services in a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable manner. In a time of budget cuts and limited resources, leveraging your building data to turn it into actionable insights can be key to your success. We are excited to share the value of the smarter building approach, and how you can improve the economic, operational and environmental needs of your agency.
