Improving Dioxin Extraction Using In-Cell Pressurized Liquid Extraction: A Case Study for Solid Sample Matrices

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for high-throughput analytical methods capable of quantifying organic contaminants in biological or other solid matrices. One approach to increasing the throughput is to reduce or eliminate the bottlenecks associated with sample preparation.

Polychlorodibenzop-dioxins, polychlorodibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorobiphenyls (dl-PCBs) are extracted from fish tissue composites using a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ ASE™ Accelerated Solvent Extractor system that layers alumina, florisil, silica gel, celite, and carbopack into the extraction cell. This method offers significant improvements over more tradition methods (e.g. U.S. EPA Method 1613) by reducing the labor, solvent consumption, and laboratory space required for the routine analysis of these organic contaminants. This advanced PLE method improves analyte recoveries and reduces the time associated with sample preparation to less than two hours.

In this web seminar, we discuss a novel high-throughput advanced pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) technique that incorporates multiple cleanup techniques into a single automated procedure.
