ARM® Cortex™-R. What is it good for?

On-demand webcast: Aired live:

The answer is fast, deterministic, functional safety applications. At least, that’s where TI’s ARM Cortex-R cores are utilized – in high performance, real-time microcontrollers made for use in safety applications. Join Neil and Brian as they discuss the capabilities of the Cortex-R and how it can extend and complement your current investment in ARM Cortex cores.

  • How are Cortex-R cores different from the popular Cortex-M?
  • How does the -R achieve higher performance than -M?
  • What are the other benefits of the Cortex-R?
  • What commercial, off-the-shelf micros are available that are based on the Cortex-R?
  • Getting started – how to get going quickly with Hercules tools and how they simplify making the switch

    Speaker:
Brian Fortman is currently a product marketing manager for Hercules™ microcontrollers (MCUs) at Texas Instruments. He was instrumental in the launch of the Hercules MCU platform in 2010. Fortman has held several product line marketing roles at TI for automotive systems, including product line strategy manager in TI’s automotive embedded processor and advanced embedded control team, as well as worldwide marketing manager of TI’s automotive infotainment business.

Neil Werdmuller is the ARM Product Manager responsible for the Cortex-R Series processors. He is based at their headquarters in Cambridge, England. Prior to joining ARM, he was responsible for the Strategic Sourcing and IP Management in the Wireless Connectivity Business Unit at Texas Instruments in Dallas and, before that, he was Strategic Product Manager responsible for the AJAR Platform at TTPCom in Cambridge before their acquisition by Motorola. He has more than 25 years experience in embedded markets since obtaining his BSc. in Computer Science.
