A New Approach to MS Imaging: Ambient and Direct Sample Analysis of Biological Samples
Event Date: October 03, 2013 at 11:00 AM EDT
Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is a very powerful technique for visualizing the spatial distribution of molecules in biological samples, typically tissue sections. However, samples for traditional MSI experiments require extensive sample preparation and analysis under vacuum. These sample preparation steps can be not only disruptive to the biomolecular landscape of the samples, but also limit the type of samples accessible for imaging experiments, such as living cells.

In this webcast, we will demonstrate how to eliminate the sample preparation and traditional vacuum requirements of MSI experiments by using Laser Ablation Electrospray Ionization (LAESI) technology. Using Protea’s LAESI DP-1000 Direct Ionization System, coupled with cutting-edge mass spectrometers, we will show you how to enable direct, ambient pressure MSI analysis of samples including, mammalian tissue sections, plant tissues, cell colonies, and biofluids.

This webcast will highlight:
• Distribution mapping of small molecules, metabolites, lipids, and peptides across the sample areas in both two and three dimensions.
• Analysis of samples in 96, 384, and 1536 well plates for rapid screening methods.
• The benefits of direct sample profiling samples without time consuming, laborious, and potentially disruptive sample preparation methods.
