Oracle Database 12c introduces a new multitenant architecture that offers greater utilization and scalability of server resources through simplified database consolidation onto private clouds. In this new architecture, a multitenant container database can hold many pluggable databases. An administrator deals with the multitenant container database, but application code connects to one pluggable database. Effectively this enables customers to manage many databases as one, without the need to change existing applications. In addition, Oracle Multitenant offers very fast provisioning and cloning of databases, rapid database patching and upgrades, and secure isolation of data. During this session, we'll examine Oracle Multitenant in some detail and explain how this new architecture works.
