Combustible Dust Safety
Clean-up and Engineering Controls
Event Date: 03/21/2013 12:00 PM Central Daylight Time

Combustible dust explosions are a risk in many areas of an industrial plant, but one of the most common locations is the dust collection system. How do you know if your facility is at risk? What steps should be taken to address this issue? This webinar provides a practical approach to tackling the combustible dust challenge, including:
  • Code Deciphering: How to understand and apply the various NFPA codes relating to explosion protection (NFPA 654, NFPA 68, NFPA 69 and NFPA 484); and how the NFPA Performance-Based Approach may be applied to offer more flexible and cost-effective solutions

  • The Role of OSHA: An update on the OSHA National Emphasis Program (NEP) for combustible dust

  • Engineering Controls:
    • Proper hood and ductwork design
    • Dust collector system design and filter media selection
    • Inlet/outlet explosion protection devices and their functions – including chemical isolation and suppression systems, fast acting valves, back draft dampers, spark traps and deflagration venting options

  • Shortfalls to Compliance: An examination of the most common shortfalls to compliance and how to avoid them.
