Many aspects of the manufacturing and production of moving parts across automotive, aerospace, commercial, and construction equipment industries are similar in nature. Often surface characteristics play an integral role in the function of large machined or moving parts, including bearing surfaces, shafts, and dynamic seals, among others. Accurately quantifying and reporting on surface roughness, texture, and functional surface parameters during early stages of production will enable defect identification at the earliest possible process points. This minimizes production failure, reduces costs, and contributes to just-in-time manufacturing success. This webcast will explore some key measurement technologies for the fastest characterization of surfaces and will cover aspects of filtering and analysis, as well as gage capability for metrology tools. In addition, the speakers will describe an easy operator interface for fast, accurate measurement of 3D areal surface parameters, which are critical to understanding resulting functional surface performance. A case study from industry will be examined as well. Webcast attendees will be invited to interact with the speakers during the program's live Q&A segment.

Industry Expert Participant:

Matt Novak, Ph.D., Marketing Applications Development Manager, Bruker Nano Surfaces Division
Matt Novak, Ph.D., is Marketing Applications Manager for Bruker Nano Surfaces Division - Stylus and Optical Metrology. Matt has 15 years’ experience in development of metrology products and systems across a range of applications including optical inspection, optical fabrication and testing, surface characterization, and thin film filter characterization.
