The Future is Calling: NFC Technology Turns Smart Phones into Secure Credentials
This was a Webinar recorded on 06/20/2012

Near Field Communications (NFC) technology is about to revolutionize the access control industry. Over the next few years, it will be possible to create, use and manage secure identity on NFC-enabled smartphones. Early adopters in Europe are already showing the way. Smartphone users will soon have a single, ubiquitous device that provides physical access to their home and workplace, and secure access to their PCs and corporate networks.

Security professionals that previously focused on distributing and managing fobs and smartcards will now be expected to deliver mobile access with the same level of transparent “magic” that users demand from their other apps. To provide insight into these new expectations, HID Global executives will offer a rare look into critical industry developments, milestones and deployment timetables. Attendees will learn about:
  • Key technological hurdles that the industry has overcome, and implications for product and service deployment.
  • New benefits and capabilities for end-users.
  • Background on the end-to-end ecosystem of products and technologies that will make mobile access control possible.
  • Examples of how developers are leveraging existing technologies from other broader and faster-moving markets to accelerate development while avoiding some of the traditional costs of producing security platforms.
Examples of new mobile access capabilities for the home and enterprise, including:
  • Mobile service bureaus that facilitate on-demand, over-the-air credential provisioning to improve speed, security and convenience.
  • Smartphones that carry mobile keys to perform multiple functions including access secure doors and logon to a computer or network.
  • Smartphones that carry smart tokens, eliminating the need to carry any other devices for computer logon.
  • Digital home access, using smartphones with mobile keys that can open residential doors equipped with NFC-enabled locks.
