Deals webcast series: Risk and opportunity in an uncertain economy |
Although the economy has shown signs of improvement, a significant amount of stress, uncertainty and volatility still exists in the marketplace which makes for a very tough environment to manage a business. This environment however, also creates opportunities for those companies that are prepared.
The main driver of the economy - the consumer - is facing an unprecedented loss of wealth and a very uncertain labor market. Additional headwinds, including an uncertain housing market and risks of more regulation, higher taxes and higher interest rates, may put significant pressure on the US recovery. On top of this, the abundance of cheap and available credit during 2005 - 2007 has lead to a daunting wall of debt maturities coming due over the next 5 years, and although issuers have been able to chip away at this debt maturity wall, a significant risk of refinancing still remains.
In the near term, unpredictability in the global and US economy and credit markets will put speculative grade and lower middle market issuers at risk of default and vulnerable to distressed investors. Companies will need to consider options in addressing debt obligations in face of tomorrows market challenges. In this webcast we will explain the risks of uncertainty and how restructuring trends suggest there is a new business model in the world of distress: sustained volatility.
Topics include:
- The Financial Crisis - where are we now?
- Macroeconomic Trends affecting GDP and consumers
- Debt Markets and the Debt Maturity Wall
