The Why, When, and How of Network Convergence

Friday, March 23, 2012 11:00 AM EDT / 8:00 AM PDT

The data center sits on the precipice of a major revolution. The era of virtual computing is here and if organizations want to fully leverage the power of virtualization, the data center network needs to transform. A network capable of realizing all the potential benefits of virtual computing must eventually converge storage and data onto a single network. However, storage convergence will not happen overnight because migrating to a converged storage and data network is not a trivial task. Most organizations should carefully assess the risk to decide the right time to start down this path. Migrating to a converged data/storage network requires a clear strategy, significant advance planning and should be done in stages to avoid putting the organization at risk.
