A symptomatic patient with COPD who had an exacerbation last year:
what would you do?

Professor Neil Barnes, Global Medical Expert, GSK and
Professor Paul Jones, Global Medical Expert, GSK
The GSK On Air series of webinars has been developed to help respiratory clinicians improve the care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. The webinars will give clinicians an opportunity to see presentations from GSK’s Global Medical Experts and, during live transmissions, interact with the speakers, who will be on camera.

How should a symptomatic patient with COPD who has experienced a first exacerbation be managed? Using a patient case study as an example, Professors Barnes and Jones will debate the merits of available therapeutic options. They will consider:

  • The impact of exacerbations on the patient
  • What reduction in exacerbation rate might be expected whilst on therapy
  • What are the other possible therapeutic benefits, including improvements in lung function and quality of life
  • How medicines can affect the underlying pathology of COPD
  • What long-term outcomes can be expected
