Photonics & Plasmonics – Past, Present, and Future

For all of 2015, scientists and engineers across the world have united to celebrate the International Year of Light, dedicated to showcasing the significant role of optical sciences in energy, education, agriculture, communications, and health. For those working in the “light” sciences, enhancing our ability to generate, detect, and manipulate light is paramount. Light has the potential to enrich the human experience, enabling laboratory research as fundamental as the study of chemical and physical processes at the molecular and nanoscale, to bring forth groundbreaking advances that improve our daily experience with technologies such as the Internet, mobile devices, medical equipment, among others.

Photonics, the science of light, and plasmonics, the study and application of the interactions of electromagnetic field oscillations with the free electrons in a metal, are two rapidly evolving fields that are poised to become the cornerstone of future technologies. In this webinar, world renowned experts will describe the intriguing history of these fields, discuss the current state of the art technologies, and give insight into the challenges that lie ahead.
